Dr. Sunny Kurian , the winner of the‘Kerala Global Achiever Award -2014’, instituted by ‘Cochin Herald’ is theChairman of the Dr. Sunny HealthcareGroup in Sharjah. He is a dedicatedMedical Practitioner who is committedto the profession and an optimisticentrepreneur. The entrepreneur in Dr. Sunny Kurian was born at a time when the situation in the Gulf region was endangered by the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait during the 90’s. His fellow countrymen were all preoccupied with the thoughts of doom and escape. Under such circumstances the future of an upstart business venture would naturally look bleak. Even, his mother was calling him every day and asking him to return home. But being a doctor who is committed to medical ethics and dedicated to the profession, Dr. Sunny Kurian, along with his wife Dr. Meera, who always extended unstinted support to him have at last decided on December 2, 1990, to stay back in Sharjah and start their venture. “Doctors Are Not Expected To Faint In An Emergency”
Doctors are not expected to faint in an emergency, either in a war zone or in peace time. True to that dictum, the Dr.in Sunny Kurian kept himself unfazed in an unfortunate situation of massive proportions. A full blown war was there in the Gulf region when his clinic was scheduled to open in Sharjah. Two decades have passed since its inception and Dr. Sunny’s Clinic has grown to such a height that it has become Dr. Sunny Healthcare Group,
witnessing multifold developments, with many more in the pipeline including expansion plans in India and other GCC countries featuring exclusive healthcare services.
Dr. Sunny is only aware that it takes an entrepreneur to set up an establishment, but a visionary to see its expansion. He has embarked on a journey of focused and multi-pronged expansion since 2005, and the single location facility has grown to multiple family clinics in Sharjah, spreading the concept of Multi-speciality Family Clinics. His unique model of health service is now expanding to other Emirates of UAE, including Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah, and the pharmacy Division under his Chairmanship is set for ambitious forays into the GCC market.

Dr. Sunny Kurian considers UAE as his adopted country and is keen to take quality healthcare to all strata of the community. He has been exploring ways
and means to do that with strategic tieups with government organizations and institutions. ”This land has given me much and I owe it this country to repay it with gratitude”, says the doctor. Among his many plans is a project targeted at Emarati families to look after the elderly ones at their own homes. His two decade old dream reached its pinnacle when his two leading medical centres – Dr. Sunny Medical Centre at Shahba and the New Dr. Sunny Medical Centre, Rolla – received the prestigious Sharjah Economic Excellence Award consecutely in 2008 and 2009. It was a befitting tribute to his pioneering efforts and achievements when he received the awards, which are the to recognition for quality and excellence by the Government of Sharjah.
A completely self made man, the qualities by which Dr. Sunny Kurian is Known today is his humaneness, spirit to excel, boldness and enthusiasm to explore new frontiers in healthcare. His strength lies in his workaholic attitude towards his diverse roles as a Pediatrician and the Chairman of a group of establishments. Dr. Sunny strongly believes that taking care of the mother and child can solve most of the healthcare issues in the family. A Child Guidance Centre dedicated for learning & behavioral problems in children is already functioning under his guidance. Dr. Sunny has also plans to establish
clinics in second and third – tier cities in India, because he believes that the middle class people in these cities require more access to out patient
healthcare than those in the metros.

During the period when Dr. Sunny established his clinic in Sharjah, success of business normally hinged on good local support. He hails from Kuravilangad in Kottayam district of Kerala and is born to Francis Kurian and Chinnamma Kurian. The enduring spirit of Dr. Sunny has come from the legacy of his family. His parents have relocated to Goa, during the 1950’s where his father Francis Kurian, alias Mohan Nair, who has distinguished himself as a dedicated Congress worker and a freedom fighter and a Member of the Congress Working Committee from Goa. His family consist of wife Dr.Meera and daughters Dr. Swetha Kurian and Shikha Kurian, student of Millennium School, Dubai.
