A homemaker and proud of it

“The idea of wind chimes came in through the thought of waste management. I wanted to create things that bring in happiness for others, through waste materials”

Being a homemaker is no small feat and Janet Jibu knows it all too well. Janet, a wife and mother of two says proudly, “Being a home-maker is a profession I strongly adhere to, I chose this.”

Despite being a multifaceted artist, she loves her role as a ‘House wife’. But she makes sure that the artist in her remains unperturbed “I am adamant to follow the little hobbies that I have. I do not make any income out of it, but there is always an effort that I put in to achieve the amount of satisfaction that is needed in the art works that I do.”

Janet is a trained fashion designer, “While pursuing it, I found interest in embroidery and graphic designing. So I went ahead to learn more about it.”

Here is what made things slightly different for Janet, she admits, “Now, while I have studied a lot of things as part of my passion, since I am living with my family as a homemaker, I might not be able to pursue something strictly by excluding the family. So whichever opportunity presents itself to me, I follow it. The difference is that I was never fixated on going after a passion of mine by sacrificing family affairs. I travel the path that opens up in front of me.”

Janet had owned her own stitching unit, but when family was given precedence she happily took on the role of a multitasking home maker. “The path that opened up in front of me at that moment was that of a homemaker, so I closed down the unit. However, I was not dejected because of it.”

She shares about the latest piece of art work she created, “This is the latest opportunity that showed itself to me, a large wall graffiti. I did it on one of the walls in my house. I opted for spray painting.”

Janet is also into sculpturing, making wind chimes and dream catchers. “The idea of wind chimes came in through the thought of waste management. I wanted to create things that bring in happiness for others, through waste materials.”

She credits her husband Jibu John for being supportive, “He is an architect and extremely creative, which is why I believe we gel so much. I have two children, Anjana Ann George and John George. Both of them are also into the creative side.”

She holds her position as a home-maker close to her heart and says, “I stand by this role as an example for other women who are also home-makers. Being a ‘house-wife or a home-maker’ is not a bad thing, these women are all talented in their own way, it is just a matter of the opportunities presented to them.”
