No Child’s Play this!

It was not just a mere fascination that Susan Gibbs had with dolls ever since she was a little girl. She went a step ahead and imagined how one can create dolls that look realistic and feel real. This idea made her the famous silicone baby artist that she is today.

Ask her to elaborate a bit about the journey and she says, “As a little girl, I wished that toy makers would make more realistic dolls that actually look and feel real. It was in 2009 that I saw a realistic looking doll in a baby furniture shop. On enquiring about it, the owner told me that it was a ‘Reborn’ doll from eBay. It was a trigger for me to do my research which finally ended in finding realistically painted vinyl dolls called ‘Reborns’. I started collecting them. It was not long after that, when I started making my own dolls. Investing my time and thought process into making realistic baby dolls escalated to another level in 2014, when I discovered about silicone dolls which are even more realistic because they look and feel real. I decided to become a silicone baby artist.”

Susan adds that her journey has its fair share of ups and downs. She says initially she used to get affected by negative comments and bashing from social media, and people calling her dolls creepy and sometimes even calling her a freak.

“I used to get affected by them and I have even thought of just not continuing with my art. But it is my passion.”
